Abstract

Blood Calcium Homeostasis is a POGIL learning-cycle activity designed for upper level high school or lower level college human biology or anatomy and physiology classes. In this activity, students play the role of the key effectors of calcium homeostasis and investigate the effects of parathyroid hormone on each effector and on blood calcium levels. After completing this activity, students will be able to describe calcium homeostasis mediated by parathyroid hormone’s effects on the small intestine, bones, and kidneys.
